UNS S31803 Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex S31803 / F51 / 1.4462, also known as stainless steel grade 2205, is a standardized formulation that conforms to UNS specification regulations. Its temperature range is typically listed as -50° to 300° C (-58° to 572° F); outside of this range, its performance characteristics degrade. Specifically, duplex S31803’s micro-components experience precipitation with prolonged exposure to high temperatures, and ductility suffers from immersion in extremely cold environments.
Its general capabilities include:
Excellent oxidation resistance
Outstanding performance in marine/sea water environments
Low thermal expansion coefficients
High heat conductivity

Excellent general corrosion resistance; superior to Grade 316 in most environments. Excellent resistance to localized corrosion including intergranular, pitting and crevice corrosion; the CPT of 2205 is generally at least 35ºC. The grade is also resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at temperatures of up to about 150ºC. Grade 2205 will often perform well in environments which cause premature failure of austenitic grades. It has better resistance to sea water then Grade 316.
Welding
Welding methods recommended for grade 2205 stainless steel include SMAW, MIG, TIG and manual covered electrode methods. During the welding process, the material should be cooled below 149°C (300°F) between passes and preheating of the weld piece should be avoided. Low heat inputs should be used for welding grade 2205 stainless steel.

Heat Treatment
1、Annealing temperature range is 1868 to 2012°F (1020 to 1100°C)
2、Cannot be hardened by heat treatment – but Duplex 2205 does work-harden
3、Special consideration is needed to compensate for a higher coefficient of thermal expansion to avoid warping and distortion
