What is 1.2312 Tool Steel? 

1.2312, also widely known as P20+S, is a chromium-molybdenum alloyed tool steel delivered in a pre-hardened condition. It is a modification of the popular P20 (1.2311) grade, with a key distinction: the intentional addition of sulfur. This small but critical modification significantly enhances the material's machinability without substantially compromising its other core properties. This makes 1.2312 an ideal solution for applications where extensive machining is required, reducing production time and tooling costs. 

Its pre-hardened state, typically between 280 and 325 HB, means it can be put into service immediately after machining, eliminating the need for further heat treatment and avoiding the associated risks of distortion or cracking.
