What is 310 Stainless Steel ?

310 Stainless Steel is a medium-carbon austenitic stainless steel developed for high-temperature service. It is a chromium-nickel alloy engineered to resist oxidation in continuous service at temperatures up to 1150°C (2100°F), provided that reducing sulfur gases are not present. Due to its high chromium (24-26%) and nickel (19-22%) content, this grade offers excellent corrosion resistance, superior resistance to oxidation, and greater strength at elevated temperatures compared to more common alloys like Grade 304. 

The austenitic structure of 310 stainless steel provides excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. While it is primarily known for its high-temperature properties, it also retains good ductility and weldability. Its robust characteristics make it an indispensable material for applications involving cyclic heating and thermal stress. Unlike martensitic steels, Grade 310 is non-hardenable by heat treatment and derives its hardness from cold working.
