What is 321 Stainless Steel (UNS S32100) 

321 Stainless Steel, designated as UNS S32100 and EN 1.4541, is a superior alternative to Grade 304, particularly for applications involving intermittent heating up to 900°C. The titanium addition, at a level of at least five times the carbon content, gives Grade 321 excellent forming and welding characteristics. Unlike many other austenitic grades, it maintains its structural integrity and corrosion resistance after being subjected to high-temperature environments, making it indispensable for components that cannot be annealed after welding. 

While sharing the good toughness and formability of standard 18/8 austenitic grades like 304, its primary advantage lies in its performance at elevated temperatures. The titanium stabilization effectively prevents sensitization, a phenomenon that makes unstabilized steels susceptible to intergranular corrosion.
