ASTM A105 (also written ASTM A105/A105M or ASME SA-105) is the standard specification for carbon steel forgings used in piping components — primarily flanges, fittings, valves, and other forged pressure parts for ambient and moderate-temperature service. It is one of the most universally referenced carbon steel material specifications in oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, and industrial piping systems worldwide. A105 material is the default carbon steel specification under ASME B16.5 (flanges) and ASME B16.11 (forged fittings) for Class 150 through Class 2500 pressure ratings.
ASTM A105N refers to A105 material supplied in the normalised heat treatment condition (the ‘N’ suffix denotes normalising). Normalising is required when the forging hardness exceeds 187 HB or when specific dimensional or project requirements mandate it. A105N material meets identical chemistry and mechanical property requirements to standard A105 but with the added assurance of controlled grain structure through heat treatment. Many modern project specifications in the UAE, GCC, and international oil and gas markets now default to specifying A105N.
At Nifty Alloys, we supply ASTM A105 and A105N carbon steel in round bars, forged blanks, and plates from our Dubai warehouse, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates for full chemical and mechanical traceability, available for immediate dispatch to UAE, GCC, and global destinations.
