BS2789 Grade 500-7 SG Iron – High Strength Spheroidal Graphite Iron

BS2789 Grade 500-7 SG Iron (also called Ductile Iron) is a high-strength engineering material widely used in heavy-duty applications where toughness, impact resistance, and durability are critical. Classified under the British Standard BS2789, Grade 500-7 combines the castability of grey iron with the strength and toughness of steel.

At Nifty Alloys, we supply premium BS2789 500-7 SG Iron for industries in Dubai, the Middle East, and across the globe.

What is BS2789 Grade 500-7 SG Iron?

SG Iron, also known as Spheroidal Graphite Iron or Nodular Cast Iron, contains graphite in the form of nodules (spheres) instead of flakes. This microstructure gives it enhanced toughness, high fatigue strength, and better impact resistance compared to conventional grey cast iron.

BS2789 500-7 is specifically designed to deliver:

  • Tensile strength of around 500 MPa
  • Elongation of up to 7%
  • Excellent wear resistance and machinability

Sustainable Benefits of SG Iron

  • Recyclable Material: Can be remelted and reused.
  • Energy Efficient: Requires less processing than forged steels.
  • Lightweight Yet Strong: Reduces overall equipment weight while maintaining durability.
