C45 is a medium carbon steel grade with approximately 0.45% carbon content. It is also known as AISI 1045, EN 1.0503, or DIN 1.1191.

Because of its balanced composition, C45 offers a combination of:

• Medium tensile strength (570–700 N/mm² in normalized condition)
• Good machinability in the annealed state
• Excellent wear resistance after heat treatment
• Flexibility for heat treatment (can be quenched and tempered to increase hardness up to ~55 HRC)
