Nitronic 50® (also known as XM-19, UNS S20910, ASTM A276 Type XM-19, or ASTM A479 XM-19) is a high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel alloyed with chromium (21–23%), nickel (11.5–13.5%), manganese (4–6%), molybdenum (1.5–3%), nitrogen (0.20–0.40%), and additions of niobium and vanadium. It was originally developed by Armco Steel as “Nitronic 50,” and is now produced generically to the S20910 / XM-19 designation by multiple mills worldwide.
What makes S20910 exceptional is the role of nitrogen as an alloying element. At 0.20–0.40 wt%, nitrogen interstitially strengthens the austenite matrix — raising yield strength to approximately twice that of 316L in the annealed condition (380 MPa vs 170 MPa) without the thermal heat treatment required by precipitation-hardening grades. Nitrogen also increases the pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) to above 40, placing S20910 in the same corrosion resistance tier as super duplex stainless steel. Unlike duplex grades, S20910 retains full austenitic non-magnetic properties in all conditions including cold-worked high-strength condition.
At Nifty Alloys, we supply Nitronic 50 / XM-19 round bars in annealed (Condition A) and high-strength (Condition B / Nitronic 50 HS) from our Dubai warehouse, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates, available for immediate dispatch to UAE, GCC, and global destinations.
