Naval Brass C46400 — universally known as 464 naval brass, C464 brass, or brass alloy 464 in the US market, and as CZ112 (BS2874) or CW712R (EN 12163) in UK and European specifications — is a copper-zinc-tin alloy containing approximately 60% copper, 37–39% zinc, and 1% tin. C46400 is the UNS (Unified Numbering System) designation assigned by the Copper Development Association (CDA), and is the reference number used in ASTM B21 (rod and bar), ASTM B171 / ASME SB171 (plate and sheet), and ASTM B124 (forgings).
The term ‘naval brass’ originates from the alloy’s long service history in shipbuilding and naval engineering, where it replaced standard 60/40 yellow brass (C28000) in seawater applications. Naval brass is also widely referred to as naval bronze in some procurement documents and regional markets — both terms describe the same C46400 / CZ112 alloy. The 1% tin addition is the critical differentiator: it dramatically suppresses dezincification — the selective leaching of zinc from the brass matrix that causes porous, structurally compromised failures in standard brass exposed to seawater, chlorinated water, or corrosive industrial fluids.
At Nifty Alloys, we supply Naval Brass C46400 in round bars, rod, plate, sheet, and hex bar from our Dubai warehouse, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates confirming chemistry (including tin content), mechanical properties, and heat traceability, available for immediate dispatch to UAE, GCC, and global marine project destinations.
